Photography

I love photography and the way it captures the briefest moment; the magical fleeting thought, emotion or feeling, that was experienced by the animal or human, and captured with a camera before it disappeared forever.

Because of this, animals and people are my favourite of all subjects and this is a real pleasure I look forward to developing. If you see anything here that inspires you to want to have your animal or yourself photographed, perhaps for a birthday present or a professional brochure, please do get in touch as would love to share my joy of creating beautiful photographs with willing recipients!

I love the mellow lighting and autumnal colouring which seems to capture this moment for me.

A melting moment in every mum's heart!

Doing what he does best. For me, the red background seems to add to the fun, warm flavour of this wonderful moment. Also the amber of the guitar is reflected in the curtain. At the time, I tried to avoid the light reflection in the guitar, but it doesn't seem to matter too much.

On from sons to chickens, and Cholderton Rare Breeds Farm near Salisbury. I've always loved this place, but if I have one complaint it's that it's difficult to get a decent photo of the chickens. This shot was taken through chicken wire. I had just told this rather proud chap I needed to photograph a particularly beautiful cockerel, and thought he was perfect for the job. So he stood there posing for a good minute or two while I snapped away. That suspicious and yet rather flattered glance just sums up this lovely boy for me.

Who would dare enter a field of Shorthorns with their young calves? Thankfully we had a fence between us, but with my Dad's old AF Nikkor 180mm zoom lens I caught this beautiful moment of protectiveness, caution and curiosity. Notice the priceless expression on the red calf on the right.

This lovely mum was the most uncomfortable with the camera (notice her head turning slightly away, like she's not quite sure). It's interesting that her calf has turned away as well. Every cow is uniquely individual in personality. But there's such a maternal, nurturing, protective gentleness in all of them. What must it be like to only feel that soft grass beneath their feet for only a few months a year?

Peace, bliss, not even a fly buzzing around...

I love how calves' back legs are so much longer than their front legs.

Now we have the same mum who was uncomfortable earlier, with another mum behind her, and she's feeling a lot safer. Her head's turned towards me, there's less tension in her shoulders and her eyes look more relaxed.
